Dr. Alexander Straus
German Patent Attorney, European Patent
and European Trademark Attorney
born in 1960 is a German and European Patent Attorney, who obtained his degree in Chemistry from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Beside his basic education in the general fields of Chemistry he specialized in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. During his Ph.D. thesis he worked in the laboratories of Hoffmann-La Roche, Basle, Switzerland, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. mult. Werner Arber, nobel prize laureate, in the field of immunology and cellular biology, investigating a novel human gene by reverse genetics. In addition, he also performed studies of biology at the Biocenter of Basle. After having received his Ph.D. Dr. Straus did a post doc research work at the University of Central London, UK, in the field of microbiology.
After a clerkship with a German patent law firm, the German Patent Office, the German Patent Court and the Regional Court in Munich he was admitted to the Board of German Patent Attorneys. His major fields of past activities include patent prosecution, oppositions, appeal procedures and litigation including interlocutory and preliminary injunctions in the field of food and bio-technology. He is a member of the Institute of Patent Attorneys admitted at the European Patent Office, the Board of German Patent Attorneys, the International Federation of Industrial Property Attorneys (FICPI), the German Association of Industrial Property & Copyright (GRUR) and the Association of German Chemists.
